Why Brainspotting?

What is Brainspotting

David Grand PH.d. created Brainspotting whilst working with survivors of 9/11.

It is derived from a combination of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Both are effective therapies for the promotion of healing from psychological trauma.

And it is an advanced brain body technique used to help heal anxiety, trauma, depression by effectively going to the root cause of psychological trauma. 

Brainspotting involves dual attunement on the side of the therapist, whereby the therapist is attuned to the therapeutic relationship with the client, as well as the clients brain-body (or neuro-physiological) responses.

How does it help Trauma Recovery?

Understanding trauma, how it affects you and the impact of trauma symptoms is still growing. What research is revealing is trauma is not just stored in the mind but also deep in the body.

And whilst traditional talk based cognitive therapies can help in trauma recovery, they don't get to the root and target it fully as trauma is buried deep in the subconscious.

Brainspotting works with mind, brain and body to help you access your deep seated trauma. Traditional therapies work from top down model, in that your thoughts change your beliefs, behaviours and feelings.

Brainspotting helps you notice what you feel in your body and your emotions as you work through your issues.

Who does Brainspotting help?

In essence, anyone!

It helps you uncover trapped emotions, identify and heal from deep rooted trauma.

Have you ever experienced thoughts, behaviours, or emotions you can't seem to change through logical thinking or implementing a behaviour change action plan?

That's because trauma, particularly if experienced prior to age 25 can have a significant impacts on the development of the brain, but brains do have the potential to change and grow. 

If you're struggling to achieve and sustain success in life, business, relationships then Brainspotting could be the key to help you unlock your hidden trauma which is impacting on your life.

What happens in a therapy session?

A single session booking is 1 hour plus 30 minute follow-up within 2 weeks.

A package of sessions is 6 x 1hour sessions.  Brainspotting can also form part of a 6 month Coaching & Therapy Package.

I will provide you with a safe container to explore your presenting issue and together we'll co-create your session/s to ensure you work on what is important to you. 

A pointer is used which you follow with your eyes to help locate an eye position that holds emotional resonance related to your issues or traumatic memories. 

I'll guide you in identifying physical sensations you experience.

You're in control and can stop at any time.  You'll continue processing after the session has finished and this is completely normal.

Is Brainspotting the same as EMDR?

Brainspotting is derived from EMDR.  

EMDR and Brainspotting are therapeutics interventions which help clients reprocess negative experiences and learn a healthier emotional reaction. Both involve bilateral stimulation and are considered advanced brain-body based strategies.

EMDR is more structured and often found to be over stimulating, Brainspotting is based on therapist attunement to client and activating brain pathways associated to safety and connection.

The client maintains an eye position as they focus on a stressful experience and connect to a spot in the brain (brainspot). This enables them to understand and release the trauma and to do so in a more fluid, natural and intuitive way.
